How does the query work?

How does the query work?

  1. Choose a domain and record types; the query is sent directly to resolvers over DNS over HTTPS.

  2. The same record is queried in parallel across different resolvers and the results are combined.

  3. Registration data is added from RDAP (RFC 7483) and, where needed, WHOIS.

  4. Results are shown as a table and exported as JSON or a printable PDF report.

Frequently asked questions

What is a DNS lookup good for?
A DNS lookup shows which IP addresses and service records (mail, verification, certificates) a domain points to. NetQuery fetches these records over encrypted DNS over HTTPS and renders them as a readable table.
Why query several resolvers?
Different resolvers answer from different locations and some apply filtering. Comparing them reveals propagation and filtering differences.
When do I need a propagation test?
After a domain transfer, name server change or CDN/IP update. The test shows how quickly resolvers worldwide pick up the new record and whether different countries receive different IPs.
What does the email security analysis check?
It inspects SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, MX servers and the blocklist status of those servers, then scores the result out of 100 and lists improvements.
Are my queries logged?
NetQuery does not keep a user profile of the domains you look up. Results are cached briefly for performance only.
